We’re finishing the American tanks today with three vehicles: the captured King Tiger, T78 and TS-5 with its G.I. Joe style.
Captured King Tiger – King Tiger (Captured)
I don’t get why this is a 3D style and not a regular model for this tank… And also why they took the tank away, it was announced when it was introduced that the rental will remain in the garage as long as the Prime is active and stay forever if the partnership with Amazon ends (the post about it was changed later)… All right, let’s go before I get too salty.
I love this style, as it almost perfectly captures the look of a real tank of sPzAbt 506 (schwere Panzerabteilung 506) that the US Army captured in Gereonsweiler (Germany).
As you can see, side skirts and fenders on the left side of the vehicle are completly missing. It’s an accurate detail.
On the right side there are only 4 pieces of side skirts and the fenders are also gone. Again – just like on the reference tank.
Some very cool details – the Zimmerit coating, missing in some places so you can see a layer of paint beneath; the original German markings (the Balkenkreuz and tactical number of the tank) and most important of them – the hole on the bottom of the turret where the tank was hit. It’s possible that the turret rotation mechanism was damaged, as on the video of this vehicle the turret is only moved by the crane when the tank is stationary.
This writing on the mantlet is also visible on the video and photos of the tank. I couldn’t really see the other one, on the side skirt, but it probably is there. I assume that more photos and maybe a higher quality video of the tank exist in the archives, after all this tank was used for testing, so it should be documented.
You can see the tank for yourself here.
Federalist – T78
This style looks almost like a 2D one, but there are some pieces added to the model.
A Browning M1919 machine gun, just like the ones we’ve seen multiple times before.
We’ve also seen the Browning M2 heavy machine gun, but not like this one. Here we can see an M2 with it’s barrel removed, placed in a transport mount on the back of the turret. On the turret roof there are two barrels for the machine gun – it’s always good to have a spare one.
G.I. Joe Breakthrough Tank (B.T.T.) – TS-5
The second of the G.I. Joe styles. I like this one more, as it looks more realistic with that color and gear on it, it also reminds me more of the toys I used to play with. Just like the first one it probably isn’t based on one particular toy, but you can compare it to the M.O.B.A.T. tank to see that the style is similar to the toys.
The stickers are actually real (at least some of them), you can see the “R 726531” and the “GREASE 84 TYPE-G” ones on the vehicle below. Also I have to say, I love how some of the stickers are crooked, it’s a little detail, but certainly it’s very realistic, at least that was the case with my toys.
Some minor details here, similar to the real G.I. Joe accessories, like the binoculars, the vintage M1 helmet and the display plate on the left.
I thought that there are not too many details on these styles and was afraid that this post will be short, but still I managed to reach the limit, so I hope you’ll enjoy it. See you later, this time with some French styles!
