I’m currently coming off about a 2-year break. Back when I first played around 2016 or so, I had a goal of getting to a 50% WR. I got tantalizingly close at about 49.9%, at which point I saw a slide back down to around 49.5%. I got frustrated and quit playing for a while.

A couple years ago I got that itch again and jumped back in for about 6-months. My moderate knowledge of the game seemed to have been rendered nearly useless by map redesigns and my generally rusty skills. Add to that the fact that I brought a couple friends with me, who were brand new to the game. We were a platoon comprised of a very rusty player (who was never that great to begin with) and a couple genuine tomatoes, which meant the other teams always had the benefit of their own, typically much better qualified platoon, handicapping our teams from the start. The result was a continued slide down to 48.91%. I was still having fun, but the WR nose dive was discouraging, so I eventually ended up stepping away, again.

Fast forward to today, and here I am getting the itch yet again (I know, shocker). I guess the fact of the matter is that I just enjoy playing tanks. I expect that enough has changed over the past couple years, that I’m going to suck pretty hard to start with. I will approach it like I always have. When I play badly, try to learn from it and not repeat the same mistakes over and over. I also tend to play tanks that I find fun or interesting rather than just sticking with the meta. I don’t see that changing, so I’ll just have to find a way to work around it. I’m going to TRY to ignore my WR for a while this time, though, and just focus on getting better.

All that said – and I appreciate any who have stuck with me this far – I realize that I probably rushed up the tiers too quickly. I think I need to step back and play some tier V-VII for a while, but I would like to focus on tanks that lend themselves to preparing me for the higher tiers. I enjoy all classes (arty the least, though I will jump into one from time to time).

What mid-tier tanks would you suggest across all classes that may involve a play style more similar to what I would see in the upper tiers, or at least serve to better prepare me for them?
